5 Reasons why you should GET to JAPAN now!

In recent light of my return to Japan and all the craziness that has been going on in my life leading up to this moment of actually being here and realizing all my hard work and effort coming true, I thought I would make a little post sharing why I think you should also make the move/visit to the good ol’ land of the rising sun.

1) For starters, you (like everyone around you) ain’t getting any younger

• Let’s face facts: we all get old, we all die, we all only got one shot at this crazy thing called life. All we can do is try and experience as much as we can with the time we are given. The best time to do anything is when you are young, and you are only young ONCE. The older we get the more caught up in the routines and drudges of day-to-day living. If you’ve been thinking long and hard if going to Japan is the right thing for you, save yourself the hassle and just do it! All that time spent contemplating only takes up that precious currency of yours called TIME. And hey, in the end, if you really didn’t like it here… move back. At least you did it while you were young. LIVE WITH NO REGRETS!

2) Your Japanese will improve drastically

• There is no better environment for studying Japanese than the place the language originated and is used every single day. I studied for 3 years before actually coming here the first time. What I learned in those three years, I doubled up in my first 6 months here. The sky is the limit in terms of what you want to learn and can learn, and you have the entire country at your doorstep if you ever want to test out something you just learned. The best study materials (books, people, teachers, environments) are here for you at a moments notice and you don’t have to pay ridiculous amounts of money to have someone teach you Japanese for 2 hours week out of a textbook. You set the rules and become the master of your own fluency!

3) Immigration laws are changing making it less of a pain for you to get here

• There is a lot of info about this in Fab’s great post on Everything You Need to Know About the New Resident Management System in Japan, but I might just add that (and I’ve been saying it for years) it is about time we see the loosening of some age old and outdated policies in terms of immigration. Japan actually NEEDS people like you. People that are genuinely interested in Japan and what to work and live here and integrate themselves as best as possible… whether they realize it or not!

4) There’s nothing to be afraid of!

• Since the events of the last year’s horrific great Tohoku earthquake, there has been much in the international media regarding the “safety” of Japan and the threat of other major earthquakes. There have been many “predictions” as to when and where the next one might strike, but really, it is all just guessing in the dark. If you want to feel more at ease have a look at this article about studies at some of the top universities in Tokyo regarding earthquake prediction. 3/11 or not, if you have ever thought about coming to Japan, earthquakes are a part of everyday life here and it comes together with the whole package of living here. Of course it is a scary thing, but don’t let fear mongering stop you from making important decisions in your life.

5) Japan has an aging population and declining birth rate crisis

I think it’s only fair guys that we help them out
